She Stays
The red bruises and her swollen face,
The mirror never lies her;
Neither does the pain,
Lingering around her body.
She doesn’t remember last night,
Was it a belt or a shoe that hit her?
And what was she called?
A slut, bitch or a whore,
Just for talking to the next door neighbour,
Or, maybe for a reason she has no idea about.
It was a buisness failure, perhaps
Or, maybe the food was not good that day,
She doesn’t recall this either,
How did this all start?
The day that she does recall,
The first night of their marriage,
His promise that he will never let go,
His gifts and the loving moments,
She has her family,
She has her friends,
She has the police,
But she won’t let go, ever
She won’t leave him, ever,
She stays, maybe she always will.
